Saint Barnabas Medical Center cares for more than 40,000 inpatients and 40,000 Emergency Department patients each year, as well as providing treatment and services for over 300,000 outpatients annually. A very busy community hospital, Saint Barnabas boasts over 15,000 operative cases in the main hospital operating rooms, encompassing all aspects of surgical practice, the busiest obstetric department in the state with over 7000 births annually, as well as an Ambulatory Surgery Center which provides anesthesia for over 7000 patients annually. The Medical Staff is comprised of more than 1700 physicians in over 70 medical and surgical specialties, including all branches of dentistry, and there are over 4000 hospital employees. As a teaching institution, Saint Barnabas trains 141 residents and fellows each year through 10 approved residency programs. Among its nationally recognized facilities are the Saint Barnabas Burn Center, the only certified burn facility in New jersey; the Renal Dialysis and Transplant Services, which treats more renal failure patients than arty other facility in the region and sixth most active in the country, The Heart Hospital, providing comprehensive cardiac surgery services for children and adults, the largest Radiation Oncology Program in Northern New Jersey, the Regional Perinatal Center, with the state's leading 50 bed Neonatal ICU, not to mention the Joslin Center for Diabetes, an affiliate of the world reknowned Joslin Diabetes Center of Boston.
