he division of Pediatric Anesthesia consists of fifteen
physicians who both have special interest in and enjoy working with
infants, children and teenagers. These physicians customize each and every
anesthetic to the patient's age, size and medical condition.
Procedures may allow for: oral pre-medication to calm a child
prior to entering the operating room, parental presence during induction
of anesthesia, and parental presence in the recovery room. Every attempt
is made to contact a parent the evening prior to surgery to discuss these
issues. This allows for a relaxed conversation between the parent and
anesthesiologist and subsequently gives the parents the opportunity to
prepare their child if they so desire.
We provide anesthesia for all types of operative procedures including:
- general pediatric surgery
- urologic
- ear, nose and throat
- orthopedic
- neurosurgical
- plastics
- burns
In addition, we provide sedation for: diagnostic and therapeutic
procedures including computerized tomography scans (CT), magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI), colonoscopy, esophagoduodenoscopy (EGD), etc.
These services are provided for both pediatric inpatients and outpatients.
A subset of the division of Pediatric Anesthesia has particular interest
in providing care for premature infants and newborns with need for
surgical procedures.
We maintain excellent relationships with our surgeons,
referring pediatricians and pediatric sub specialists, pediatric intensive
care specialists and neonatal intensive care specialists. This teamwork
allows us to coordinate care plans with these other services to ensure
paramount preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care.
